Ouachita football alumnus Spencer Knight is entering his eighth year and seventh season on the Ouachita coaching staff leading the receivers unit.

During Ouachita's GAC championship run in 2024, Knight led two All-GAC performers, including first team honoree Connor Flannigan and third team honoree Carter McElhany. Flannigan was also a first team honoree in 2023 as the GAC's leading receiver.

During the 2022 season, Knight coached two All-Conference receivers, Connor Flannigan and Justin Dean. Flannigan was fourth in the GAC in receiving yards per game in 2022. The Tiger receiving core proved vital en route to the team's sixth GAC Championship.

During the 2021 season, Knight coached All-Conference PR/WR Connor Flannigan, who led the GAC in punt return yards. Knight also had the opportunity to work with Offensive Team Captain Hayden Waller, who helped lead a hard-working WR unit to a 9-2 record.

During the 2019 season, Knight coached All-Conference and All-Region wide receiver Allie Freeman. Freeman led the GAC in receptions (95) and broke the GAC career reception mark with over 250 career receptions. Knight's unit accumulated almost 2,000 yards receiving and 14 TD. During the 2018 season, Knight coached two All-Conference wideouts in Drew Harris and Allie Freeman. The receiving corps led a solid passing game with over 120 receptions for 1500 yards and 11 TD’s. Knight’s senior-heavy group included two offensive captains voted on by the team in La’Darius McElroy and Drew Harris.

Before making his return to Ouachita, Knight coached the University of Memphis for three seasons coaching special teams and outside linebackers. He had the opportunity to learn under two rising FBS head coaches in Justin Fuente and Mike Norvell (Florida State). Knight worked directly with Special Teams Coordinator Joe Lorig, who is regarded as the top Special Teams Coordinator in FBS and is currently at the University of Oregon. Knight helped guide the special teams unit to a number one ranking in the American Athletic Conference for three consecutive seasons. Knight also coached the AAC Special Teams player of the year for three straight seasons (Jake Elliot ’15 and Tony Pollard ‘16-17). The Tigers scored seven touchdowns on kickoff returns during a two-year span and ranked in the top 3 in kickoff coverage for three consecutive seasons.

Knight had the opportunity to coach in three bowl games while at Memphis:
2015 – Birmingham Bowl vs. Auburn
2016 – Boca Raton Bowl vs. Western Kentucky
2017 – Liberty Bowl vs Iowa State

Knight played football at Ouachita from 2011-2014, during which time he was a member of two Great American Conference Championship teams. The former fullback earned Academic All-Conference and All-Conference honors three times during his career. Knight’s teammates voted him team captain his senior year, and he was a member of the AFCA All-State Good Works Team in 2014.

Knight and his wife, Megan, have three children - Levi, Emma, and Knox. Megan is a 2015 Ouachita graduate. Spencer is the son of Ouachita Head Coach Todd Knight.
