Volleyball Takes Victory Against Rival Harding

ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Lady Tigers volleyball team (13-11, 4-6 GAC) hosted the Harding University Lady Bison (17-6, 8-2 GAC) on Thursday night. Harding came into the match-up with high hopes of a conference championship, only suffering one conference loss previous to the contest, but the Lady Tigers proved to be a source of trouble, downing the Lady Bison in four sets (25-21, 25-21, 16-25, 25-19)

The Lady Tigers came out hot in the first set, winning 25-21 and collecting14 kills. In the second set, the Lady Tigers were out to prove to Harding that they were not content with just a set victory. Instead, they wanted the match, taking the second set by a score of 25-21. Harding wouldn't go away though, as they took the third set by a score of 25-16 and momentarily stumped Ouachita's momentum. In the fourth set though, the Lady Tigers would again show Harding whose house they were playing in, downing the Lady Bison 25-19 and taking the match, forcing Harding to 8-2 in conference and hurting their chances of a regular season conference championship.

The Lady Tigers were led by junior Megan Askew, who collected 20 kills to go along with three digs, three solo blocks and three block assists. Also contributing heavily was senior Lexie Hegi, who collected a gaudy 48 assists in the match to go along with seven digs and four block assists. Leading the Lady Tigers in digs was junior Allison Frizzell, who seemed to be all over the floor, and collected 25 digs. Freshman Chelsey Hess also collected a number of digs, finishing the match with 18 of her own to complement an assist.

Harding was led by Mollie Arnold, who ended the match with 20 kills and 18 digs. Also notable was Taryn Eubank, who collected 32 assists and three kills to go along with five digs.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, October 22, when they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Oklahoma. That match will begin at 2 p.m.
