Lady Tigers Soccer Splits Weekend Games

ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (5-9, 2-3 GAC) hosted two games this weekend, both of which were non-conference foes, but both very close games. On Friday, the Lady Tigers hosted Christian Brothers (5-8-2), taking the game into double overtime before a spectacular game winning goal by senior Beth Wendl. The Lady Tigers would return to that very field on Sunday, when they fell to Delta State (4-11) in a tough 1-0 loss.

During Friday's game, the Lady Tigers dominated every aspect of the game but were just unable to score during regulation. They took a total of 15 shots in the game, compared with the three shots that CBU put up. Ouachita senior goalkeeper Whitley Hoppe collected a shutout, while only having to register one save during the match-up. The star of the game though was Wendl, as she received a free kick from junior Mary Whisenhunt and was able to net it during the second overtime period, giving the Lady Tigers a win, and helping them walk away with a 5-8 record going into Sunday. The lone caution in the game came at the end of the match, when freshman Brie Munoz was given a yellow card.

On Sunday, Ouachita hosted Delta State for senior day. It was a rough and tumble game, with Ouachita dominating every aspect of it until late in the second half. The game seemed to go much like the one on Friday and looked to be going into overtime, with the Lady Tigers not being able to net a goal. Delta State's Kellie Hendle had other plans though, as she scored the only goal of the game at the 82:36 mark with an assist from Payten Pearson. The Lady Tigers took 23 shots in the game as compared to the Lady Statesmen's two but were just unable to score. Delta goalkeeper Kelsey Elling gathered 11 saves in the game while Hoppe collected a save for Ouachita.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday, when they host Dallas Christian College at 1 p.m.
