Volleyball Ruins Southern Arkansas' Senior Night in Five Set Thriller

MAGNOLIA, AR- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (17-12, 8-7 GAC) made the trek south to Magnolia on Tuesday evening to face off with the Lady Muleriders of Southern Arkansas (15-15, 6-9 GAC). The Lady Tigers were rolling going into the match, holding a three game win streak, all of which came in conference play. They were played tough by SAU, but to no avail, as the Lady Tigers stretched their winning streak to four in a five set victory ( 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-7).

The Lady Tigers took the first two sets before Southern Arkansas came out strong in sets three and four, sending the game to a fifth set. Ouachita came out after the fourth set with a purpose though, taking it to the Lady Muleriders in the set with a 15-7 victory, and ultimately taking the match and their win streak back home before their final conference game of the season.

Ouachita was led by three very familiar names, as juniors Allison Frizzell and Megan Askew, as well as senior Lexie Hegi continued their string of strong performances. Frizzell finished with 28 digs in the game, marking her highest total over the win streak, as well as a service ace. Askew recorded 11 kills, while senior Libby Harrington led the team with 13. Askew added two digs, three solo blocks and three block assists to help the Lady Tigers. Hegi again led the Tigers in assists, collecting 42 of the 45 that the Lady Tigers were credited for during the match. She also added seven kills, two service aces, 15 digs, a solo block and a block assist.

Southern Arkansas' Jordan White had herself a game, collecting 24 kills as well as three digs and a block assist. Also notable for the Lady Muleriders was Ashlie Arnold, who finished the match with 55 assists.

The Lady Tigers close out their season on Thursday night, when they host the Cotton Blossoms of University of Arkansas-Monticello. Immediately following the game, the Lady Tigers will be senior day ceremonies to honor the contributions of their three seniors. Seniors on this year's squad include Hegi, Harrington and Kristyn Howk.
