Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- After coming off of a win in their first conference contest, the Ouachita Tigers (9-3, 2-0 GAC) hosted the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (9-4, 0-2 GAC). The Tigers knew that they had a challenge in front of them, as the Bulldogs walked into Bill Vining Arena sporting a 9-3 record, but the Tiger defense proved to be a game changer, with SWOSU only making 27.5 percent of their shots in the game and allowing the Tigers to walk away with a 68-56 victory and a 2-0 start in conference play.
The Tigers were led by sophomore
David Day, who finished with 14 points. Senior
Emmanuel Engulu and junior
Austin Mitchell both finished with 10 points for the Tigers, while juniors
Nigel Ramsey,
Julian LaDay and sophomore
Nick Ross all had eight points. Mitchell collected a team high eight rebounds while LaDay racked up five assists in the game. LaDay also recorded a team high three steals in the contest.
The Bulldogs were led by Dominick Cornelius, who recorded 12 points, while Thomas Davis and Chase Elliot both finished with 10. Ryan Donahoe and Filip Toric grabbed a team leading seven rebounds while Donahoe also recorded a team high three assists.
The Tigers held a 35-26 lead at the half and would hold on to that lead by scoring 33 points in the second half as compared to Southwestern's 30. The Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs 40-31 in the game while the Bulldogs forced the Tigers to turn the ball over 20 times.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, January 12, when they host the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas. That game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
