Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.-The Ouachita Lady Tigers (5-1, 3-0 GAC) continued to add to their string of wins on Thursday, capturing a 74-66 victory over Southern Arkansas (0-6, 0-2 GAC) and stretching their win streak to five. The Lady Tigers overcame 21 turnovers in the victory by edging the Lady Muleriders in free throw shooting, making 27 to SAU's 13.
The Lady Tigers held a five point advantage after the first half, leading 37-32. They took the lead due to a seven point run that began with about eight minutes left in the half.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers fended off an early run from the Lady Muleriders, which cut Ouachita's lead to just one point. Ouachita recovered and stretched the lead with a number of short scoring runs.
Monica Williams led the Lady Tigers offense with 21 points, while also adding six rebounds and two steals.
Nashia James added 15 to the team's totals, while
Elise Holman and
Katherine West added 13 and 10 respectively. Holman led the team on the boards, grabbing five rebounds, while James led the team with three assists.
Stevi Cooper led the Lady Muleriders with 14, with teammates Katherine McBride and Tori Nichols adding 14 and 11. Nichols finished the game with a double-double, recording 14 of Southern Arkansas' 47 rebounds.
Ouachita shot 43 percent from the floor in the game while holding their opponents to just 34 percent. Although 61 percent from the free throw line seems like a tough night, the 27 free throws that the Lady Tigers did make proved to be the difference. The Lady Muleriders held an advantage on the boards in the game, although not much, recording 47 boards to Ouachita's 43.
The Lady Tigers will put their win streak and their undefeated conference record on the line on Saturday, when they travel to Monticello for a match-up with the Cotton Blossoms of the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
