ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (6-1, 4-0 GAC) weren't going to give the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello (2-5, 0-4 GAC) a chance to spoil their perfect conference record on Saturday, stomping UAM on the road and taking an 82-65 victory.
The two teams went into halftime with a 33-33 tie after a back and forth first half. The largest lead in the first half was seven points, held by UAM with about seven minutes left in the half. The Lady Tigers answered with a short run though, tying things up before the buzzer.
In the second half, it was all Ouachita, as they jumped out early with a 13-0 run, which they then followed with an 11-0 run just minutes later. Ouachita led by as many as 19 points during the half, putting on an offensive showcase.
Ouachita was led by another sensational performance from
Monica Williams. Williams finished the game with a double-double, recording a gaudy 31 points and 19 rebounds.
Nashia James and
Kendra Coyle also had solid days, finishing with 18 and 10 respectively.
Katherine West was setting up her teammates all afternoon, as she ended up with a game-high six assists.
Arkansas-Monticello was led by Donlicia James, who finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Catherine Puckett added 14 to the team's totals, while Candace Virgadamo adding 13 and Jordan Goforth adding 11.
The Lady Tigers grabbed 48 rebounds, winning the rebounding battle by 18, balancing out their negative four margin in the turnover category. Ouachita shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the game, while knocking down 76 percent of their free throw attempts.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, December 15 when they host Texas A&M-Commerce. Tip-off is scheduled for 3p.m. at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia.
