ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers (15-10, 8-7 GAC) moved back above .500 in conference play and stretched their win streak to three on Thursday, downing No. 17 Arkansas Tech (20-5, 12-3 GAC) at Bill Vining Arena by posting an exciting rally to close out the game. Ouachita took the game by a score of 80-76 after being down five points with just 2:19 remaining in the game. Ouachita outrebounded the Wonder Boys 5-2 in the last two minutes while hitting big shots down the stretch, including three pointers from
Austin Mitchell and
Nigel Ramsey and free throws by
Julian LaDay.
Four players finished in double digits for the Tigers, including Ramsey, who finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds while also adding four rebounds.
Emmanuel Engulu finished with 17 points for the Tigers, adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Mitchell added 15 for the Tigers.
Michael Morris recorded 10 points for the Tigers as well, adding eight rebounds. The Tigers shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the game while draining 24 of their 36 free throw attempts.
Arkansas Tech had four players finish in double digits as well, led by Jared Williamson, who recorded 22 points and nine rebounds. Matt Haney added 15 while Johnie Davis and Mykel Cleveland recorded 14 and 11 respectively. Cleveland also added a team-high four assists for the Wonder Boys. Arkansas Tech made 73.1 percent of their free throws, draining 19 of their 26 attempts while also shooting 41 percent from the floor.
Both teams only had 13 turnovers in the game, with the Tigers outrebounding the Wonder Boys 29-22. Tech was called for 29 fouls in the game, while Ouachita was called for 22.
Ouachita looks to continue their string of wins on Saturday, when they host Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 4 p.m. It will be the last regular season game of the season before heading to Bartlesville, Oklahoma next week for the inaugural Great American Conference tournament.
