ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers (15-11, 8-8 GAC) have officially locked up the fourth seed in the Great American Conference after falling to Arkansas-Monticello (20-6, 10-6 GAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers posted a run in the second half, forcing overtime, but were unable to capitalize in the extra five minute period, and eventually fell by a score of 81-77.
Ouachita seniors
Emmanuel Engulu and
Tyler Posey finished up their last home game of their careers, although it wasn't the result that they would have preferred. Engulu finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers. Junior
Michael Morris posted an eye-opening 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers, while junior
Nigel Ramsey added 18 points. Junior
Austin Mitchell also added 14 points for the Tigers, while Ramsey and junior
Julian LaDay both posted a game-high six assists.
Monticello was led by L.A. Farmer, who posted a game-high 25 points. Kori Forge added 20 for the Boll Weevils, while Ricardo Hall and Sergio Crowe added 14 and 11 respectively. Crowe grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Farmer added a team-high five assists.
Ouachita shot 41.9 percent from the floor in the game, also making 90.9 percent of their free throws, but it just wasn't enough to down the Boll Weevils. Ouachia was outrebounded 39-35 in the game but hung tough, forcing 19 turnovers as compared to their 16 turnovers.
Ouachita will kick off post-season play on Thursday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Tigers will tip-off against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 8:30 p.m. The Tigers split the season series with the Savage Storm.
