WEATHERFORD, Okl. - After a first half in which the Ouachita Tigers (11-9, 4-6 GAC) were held to only 20 points, they were unable to get enough production to come back and defeat the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (12-7, 4-5 GAC). The Tigers only shot 31 percent from the floor in the first half and despite 33 points in the second half, they were never able to cut the lead below 11 points.
Ouachita was led by senior
Emmanuel Engulu, who finished with 11 points, a rebound, an assist and a steal. Freshman
Taylor Smith added nine for the Tigers while sophomore
David Day added seven. Day and sophomore
Julian LaDay both recorded a team high four rebounds with LaDay also adding a team high three assists.
Southwestern Oklahoma was led by Thomas Davis. Davis finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds while also recording five assists for the Bulldogs. Ryan Donahoe added 12 for the Bulldogs while Zach Howe added 11 points. The Bulldogs made more than half of the shots that they took in the game, draining 52.2 percent of their attempts.
Ouachita was unable to win the turnover margin or the rebounding margin, turning it over 20 times to Southwestern's 14 and only recording 22 rebounds to Southwestern's 28. Ouachita had some trouble from the free throw line, only making 52.4 percent of their free throw attempts.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, February 9, when they travel to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas for a match-up with the Muleriders. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
