MAGNOLIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (3-9) made the trip to Magnolia on Saturday for a double-header in which they first faced off against Texas College, while following that up with their first GAC match-up, taking on Southern Arkansas. Ouachita started things off strong, sweeping the Lady Steers of Texas College, before suffering a hard fought loss to the Lady Muleriders in five sets.
As previously mentioned, the Lady Tigers took a 3-0 sweep in their first match. They were so good in fact, that they only allowed 30 points for the Lady Steers throughout the three set contest. The Lady Tigers posted 10 service aces in the match, four of which came from
Kelsi Bodine.
Allison Frizzell recorded 16 digs during the three set contest, while Bodine led the team in kills as well, with seven.
Megan Askew recorded six kills in the game, with
Abby Pickett adding five to Ouachita's totals. It was a complete rout of a game, with Texas College finishing the game with an attacking percentage of -.086.
Ouachita looked to carry the momentum from their first match into their GAC opener with Southern Arkansas shortly after. Ouachita played well, but ended up falling in the fifth set by a score of 18-16 and fell to 3-9 on the season and 0-1 in GAC play. Pickett picked up where she left off in the first match, leading the team with 12 kills. Askew and
Faith Avalos both added nine kills for Ouachita. Frizzell recorded 33 digs, with
Sara Mitchell and
Jillian Jeffcoat both adding 12 of their own.
Ouachita will look to improve to 1-1 in GAC play on Tuesday, when they play their home opener against Arkansas-Monticello. That match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
