ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tigers (2-1) played their home-opener on Tuesday against Hendrix (1-2), capturing a thrilling victory behind the goalkeeping performance of
Shelby Shepherd and a 30 yard score by
Leah Anderson. Ouachita took the 1-0 victory and warded off overtime due to Anderson's goal, which came at the 53 minute mark of the contest.
Ouachita took 17 shots in the game, only five of which were on goal.
Sammie Mack,
Audrey Rodriguez and
Sarah McKimmey all took three shots in the game, all three of which also finished with a shot on goal. Anderson took two shots of her own, including her 30 yard goal, which she slipped over the head of Hendrix goalkeeper Rachel Zweig.
Zweig recorded four saves for the Lady Warriors, while the rest of the team was completely stumped by the Lady Tiger defense, only taking five shots in the 90 minute game. Three of the Lady Warriors' shots were on goal, but Ouachita's Shepherd was there to stop all of them.
There were only a total of five fouls called in the game, three coming against Ouachita. Ouachita held the advantage in corner kicks in the contest though, taking four, as compared to two for Hendrix.
The Lady Tigers will have about a week off, but will travel to Conway for a match-up with Central Baptist on Monday, September 10. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
