DURANT, Okla.- A two game road swing never seems to be welcoming when playing in the Great American Conference, but the Ouachita Tigers (11-7, 7-5 GAC) made the best of the first game of two in Oklahoma this weekend, as they blew out Southeastern Oklahoma (10-8, 6-6 GAC) on Thursday. The Tigers outplayed the Savage Storm in almost every aspect, claiming a 74-48 win.
The Tigers and Savage Storm saw a fairly close first half of play, with just an eight point Tiger advantage at halftime. Ouachita jumped out to a quick start, as they scored 11 points before the Savage Storm even notched a bucket. The Tigers led by as much as 12 in the half, before settling for an eight point lead going into the locker room.
In the second half, the Tigers ran away with the game, stretching their lead quickly and efficiently. They led by as much as 31 in the game, as they increased their lead an 11-0 run with about 14 minutes left to play in the game. They continued to increase the margin of victory before settling with a 26 point victory, stretching their win streak to four.
Ouachita was led by
Michael Morris and
Austin Mitchell, both of which finished with 19 points. Morris not only worked hard on offense though, but also on defense, recording a game-high five blocks.
Nigel Ramsey led the Tigers in rebounding, recording 10 in the game while adding seven points and three steals.
Southeastern's offensive production came from a number of players, but Andris Misters recorded a team high 10 points. Steven Kohli and Mateus Oliveira both notched double-digit rebound totals but it wasn't enough to overcome the Tigers.
Ouachita won the game with a combination of great offense and defense, making 46.7 percent of their shots while holding Southeastern to just 28.1 percent from the floor. The Tigers took great care with the ball, only committing 12 turnovers in the game while forcing 18.
Ouachita closes out their road swing on Saturday, when they take on East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
