Tigers Win Twice in Oklahoma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – OBU Tiger volleyball finished their three match road trip with a 2-1 record, defeating Northwestern Oklahoma State (25-21, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18) on Friday and Southwestern Oklahoma State (20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 16-14) on Saturday.
 
On Friday, the Tigers defeated NWOSU by a set score of 3-1. OBU dominated on the attack all match, ending with an attacking percentage of .221 and only 18 errors. The Tigers held the Rangers to an attacking percentage of .096. The Rangers also committed 32 errors in the contest.
 
Ouachita was led by sophomore Abby Pickett, who finished with 15 kills. Junior Kelley Ballard also pitched in, totaling 11 kills and only one error to give her a match-high attacking percentage of .455. Junior Tara Wait had a match-high 45 assists, and junior Chelsey Hess led both teams with 19 digs.
 
On Saturday, the Tigers defeated the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs in five sets. OBU struggled early, losing the first two sets. The Bulldogs seemed to be approaching victory as they developed an 8-2 lead in the third set, before the Tigers made their run.
 
OBU rallied back to claim the third set by a score of 25-22. The huge momentum swing helped the Tigers go on to win the fourth set, and then the fifth set, stealing the victory from the Bulldogs. Ouachita scored 62 kills and only 23 errors, and also finished with 10 blocks.
 
The match was an overall team victory for Ouachita. Four Tigers finished with over 10 kills. Freshman Jayme Shell had a team-high 15 kills, followed by Pickett with 13. Senior Kelsi Bodine contributed with 12 kills, and Ballard had 11. Bodine also had a match-high attacking percentage of .379.
 
Wait, the junior from White Oak, Texas, compiled a double-double with 12 digs and a match-high 54 assists. Hess also stepped up on defense, recording an incredible 31 digs for the Tigers.
 
The Tigers (10-7, 4-4) are at home for the next four matches. The first of which is on Tuesday, Oct. 22, as Ouachita competes in the Battle of the Ravine against Henderson State University. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. at OBU.
