Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The OBU Lady Tigers lost a tough conference match against the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs. Final score was 1-0.
The match was neck-and-neck throughout, in which both teams had good chances at goals but stellar defense kept the match scoreless.
In the first half, SWOSU spent most of their time attacking, as the Bulldogs took 17 shots. Ouachita's defense prevailed, including eight saves from keeper
Sarah Broyles, to keep the score 0-0 at halftime.
The second half featured a little more offense from the Lady Tigers as they were able to take eight shots. OBU's best attempt at a score came when
Morgan Allen rebounded the ball off a deflection and took a shot while the SWOSU keeper was down. The shot was blocked by a Southwestern defender, however, right before entering the goal.
The match remained tied until the 89
th minute when Miranda Balenzentis scored to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 with a minute left to play. The Bulldogs were then able to hold off OBU's desperate attacks for the last minute to grab the win.
OBU sophomore
Haley Hatcher led the Lady Tigers on offense and had a match-high four shots on goal. Broyles finished with a match-high of ten saves for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers (9-5-1, 4-3-1) step on the pitch again on Friday, Nov. 1, as they take on the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m.
