Football Preview: OBU vs HSU

Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Tigers end their 2013 regular season this Saturday as they welcome the #4 ranked Reddies of Henderson State into A.U. Williams Field for the 87th Battle of the Ravine.

The 7-2 Tigers are looking to ruin the Reddies chance of an undefeated regular season and improve their chances of playing more football.

Last week the Tigers focused on winning the game at the line of scrimmage and walked away with a 35-10 win over Arkansas-Monticello. The Tigers held the Boll Weevils scoreless in the second half and to 3 yards of total offense.  When the Tigers had the ball, the offensive line opened holes and created lanes all day and allowed Chris Rycraw to gain 198 rushing yards and Steven Kehner to find the end zone twice.

The line of scrimmage will once again be the key for victory this week against the number one ranked scoring offense in Division II. With Henderson averaging 54.4 points per game, the Tigers' offense will need to control the football, something it does better than anyone else in the conference with an average time of possession of 34:41, fourth best in the nation.

On defense, the Tigers' front seven will have to get pressure on Kevin Rogers. They have to prevent him from getting into any kind of a rhythm early in the game. This will also take pressure off of OBU's defensive backs charged with covering a trio of Henderson receivers that rank in the GAC top 10 for receiving yards.

Twelve Ouachita seniors are looking to walk off of A.U. Williams Field as winners in what would be the signature win of the 2013 season.

A look at OBU this season:

Senior Augustine Ume-Ezeoke, the leading tackler for the Tigers, recorded three solo tackles and seven assisted tackles last week at Southern Arkansas. He also added one tackle for loss, giving him six on the season. Ume-Ezeoke has a total of 64 tackles on the year.
