Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The competition portion of Battle of the Ravine Week kicked off in Arkadelphia tonight as the Ouachita Tiger volleyball team made its way across State Highway 7/67 to face the Lady Reddies of Henderson State.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in set one. The Tigers increased the lead to 8-3, but the Lady Reddies came back after consecutive attack errors by OBU and a block by Cherise Austin. The Tigers would swing momentum back their way with aggressive front play and a key block by
Kelley Ballard. HSU would take a timeout down 13-8 and again down 18-10, but the Tigers would maintain their lead thanks to big kills by
Abby Pickett and aggressive net play by setter
Tara Wait and take set one 25-12.
Henderson State would come much more aggressive in set two and took a quick lead. The teams would trade points and HSU would take a timeout down 10-7. They would come back and tie the Tigers 10-10 and then regain the lead for the remainder of the set. The Tigers attack percentage dropped from .333 % in set one to .103% in set two due to seven attack errors. Tigers would fall in set two 21-25.
The Tigers made quick work of set three by cutting down on errors and dominating the Lady Reddies at the net.
Tara Wait and Kelsi Boidine were surgically accurate with their attacks and
Kelley Ballard was an impenetrable wall at the net. Tigers won set three 25-16.
Momentum went the Lady Reddies way at the start of set four forcing Ouachita to take an early timeout down 3-7. Down 4-12, the Tigers would get momentum back with a
Faith Avalos kill and gradually chip away at the HSU lead. When another Avalos kill cut the lead to three, HSU took a timeout up 15-18 to try and slow down the Tigers. The Tigers would get a block from
Stephanie Pollnow and
Abby Pickett to make 17-19 but HSU respnded two quick points to force an OBU timeout. The Reddies would take set four 19-25 and force a set five.
HSU would jump out to a quick lead up -03 in set five. Up 3-6, OBU would take a timeout to regroup. The teams would switch sides with the Lady Reddies up 5-8. The lead would stay at three when OBU would take their next timeout down 9-12. A huge block by Pollnow and Pickett would tie it up 12-12. The Tigers would win the next point and foce a HSU timeout. The Tigers rallied to score six consecutive points and win the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
For the Tigers,
Abby Pickett led the team with 12 kills.
Tara Wait led the team with 43 assists.
Chelsey Hess finished with 26 digs.
Stephanie Pollnow led the Tigers with five blocks.
The Tigers travel to Hot Springs next Thursday where they'll be seeded fourth in the GAC tournament. They will face the fifth seeded Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State.
