RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.- Defense was the key to the game on Thursday evening as the Ouachita Tigers (12-9, 8-7 GAC) faced off with the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech (13-8, 10-5 GAC). The Tigers and Wonder Boys fought back and forth all night, but a late turnover and a missed desperation three ended in a 52-50 Tiger loss.
In the first half, the Tigers looked like they might control the game. They held a nine point lead with just 2:13 remaining in the half, but a 6-0 run from Tech left the Tigers with just a three point lead after one period of play.
The second half saw a valiant effort from both teams, with a back and forth battle in store. Arkansas Tech took a five point lead with 1:18 left in the game, but Ouachita's
Julian LaDay answered with a three and made the lead just two.
A free throw by Tech gave them a three point lead, followed by a pair of clutch free throws from LaDay, cutting the lead back to one. Another free throw from Tech put the game away though, as a desperation heave from
Nigel Ramsey fell short and left the Tigers with a loss.
Ouachita's
Michael Morris was the only double-digit scorer for the Tigers, with 10 points. He also reigned in six rebounds before fouling out late in the game.
Colt Fason picked up nine rebounds in the game, leading the Tigers.
Tyler Friedel and Paul Cooper led the Wonder Boys with 11 points in the game. Jared Williamson finished with 11.
Ouachita returns to action on Saturday, when they host Harding University at 4 p.m.
