RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.- Thursday night proved to be a tough night for the Ouachita Lady Tiger basketball team, as they took on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University. The Lady Tigers went into halftime trailing by four points, but difficulty on offense and a surge by Tech ended in a 74-55 loss for Ouachita.
Arkansas Tech led by as many as seven points in the first half, but a late push from the Lady Tigers left them only trailing by four at halftime. Both teams struggled for the majority of the half, with neither team developing much of an offensive flow.
As the second half began, a much different game began to unfold. The Golden Suns stretched their lead to 11 points just a little less than two minutes into the half. From then on, the Lady Tigers were never able to recover, as a number of small runs stretched the Arkansas Tech lead to 21 with 10 minutes left in the game.
As the rest of the second half closed out, Arkansas Tech found themselves leading by as much as 28 points and one time, but a late 9-0 run from the Lady Tigers resulted in a final margin of 19, as the Lady Tigers fell 74-55.
Despite her struggles,
Monica Williams led the team with 11 points, while
Breanna Harris and
Erica Sharp both finished with 10 points. Williams and
Elise Holman led the team on the boards, as they both recorded seven rebounds.
Roselis Silva posted a quiet 18 points in the game, while also recording nine steals and six rebounds in the game.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, when they host Harding University at Bill Vining Arena for pink out night. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
