WEATHERFORD, Okla.- It was a tough Saturday evening for the Ouachita Tigers, as they took on the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State on the road. The Tigers (13-10, 9-8 GAC) jumped out to an early lead, but the Bulldogs (10-15, 9-10 GAC) took control about half way through the first half and cruised to a 75-63 win.
Ouachita led by as much as four in the early goings, but Southwestern came back and quickly turned the tides with a 9-0 run that gave them a five point advantage. Ouachita struggled the rest of the first half, as the Bulldogs jumped to an 11 point lead going into halftime.
The Tigers came out in the second half with a fire lit underneath them, as they cut Southwestern's lead to just five points just about three minutes into the second half. From that point on though, the team would trade baskets, with Southwestern stretching their lead a couple of times, leading to a 12 point win.
Ouachita was led by
Colt Fason, who finished with 17 points and three rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting.
Austin Mitchell finished with 15 points, while
Julian LaDay posted seven.
Southwestern's Thomas Davis and Rod Camphor led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 and 18 points respectively.
Both teams shot the ball well, with the Tigers making 45.5 percent of their attempts and the Bulldogs making 46.5 percent. The game might have been decided by free throws though, as the Bulldogs made 30 of their 41 attempts, compared to the Tigers, who made just 16 of their 27 attempts.
Ouachita returns to action on Sunday, when they take on Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
