ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The first and second half of Saturday night's basketball game at Bill Vining Arena were polar opposites, with the Ouachita Tigers having to overcome a 10 point halftime deficit to down Arkansas-Monticello. The Tigers overcame though, and took a 62-58 win over the Boll Weevils to close out the regular season.
Monticello (16-10, 11-9 GAC) led for most of the first half, leading by as much as 10. The Tigers (14-12, 10-9 GAC) held the game close early in the half, but were unable to score later on, allowing UAM to jump ahead and take the 10 point lead at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Tigers put themselves right back in the game with an early rally. They tied the game with 14:55 left and they pretty much led the game from that point on. Monticello tied the game late, but wasn't able to take a lead, leaving the Tigers with a four point win.
Ouachita's four seniors, playing their last game in Bill Vining Arena, led the way.
Michael Morris finished with 11 points, while
Julian LaDay and
Nigel Ramsey posted 12.
Austin Mitchell rounded out the Tigers' double-digit scorers with 11 points. Morris led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.
Brandon Sims led UAM with 15 points, while Kori Forge finished with 12 points. A.J. Calhoun led the team on the boards with nine rebounds.
Ouachita shot 38.9 percent from the floor, while holding the Boll Weevils to just 33.3 percent in the game. The Tigers also forced 14 turnovers while only committing 10.
Ouachita will face off with Southeastern Oklahoma in the first round of the Great American Conference tournament on Friday night in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
