Lady Tigers Close Out Regular Season with Win Over Arkansas-Monticello

Box Score
ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tigers ended the regular season with a win on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello. The Lady Tigers and Cotton Blossoms were tied at halftime, but ran away with the game, winning by a final score of 75-63.

Neither team was able to create any distance from the other in the first half, as the largest lead was a five point lead by the Lady Tigers (17-9, 12-8 GAC). The Cotton Blossoms (6-20, 3-17 GAC) held a number of leads themselves, with a three point lead being their largest. However, as the halftime buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 29-29.

The second half of the game was all Ouachita, as they jumped out to a six point lead just three minutes into the half and began stretching it. They led by as many as 12 points and held off a number of short runs from UAM, leading to their eventual 12 point win.

The Lady Tigers used a 34 point, 11 rebound performance from Monica Williams to lead the way.  Nashia James was the only other Lady Tiger with double-digit point totals, as she notched 12 points in the game.

Catherine Puckett and Ashley Qualls led the way for Monticello, recording 19 and 13 points respectively. Puckett also led the team on the boards with 10.

Ouachita shot 44.8 percent from the floor, but even more impressive was their 52.6 percent mark from downtown. They outplayed the Cotton Blossoms in every regard, outrebounding, outshooting and committing less turnovers than them.

The Lady Tigers hold the fifth seed going into the Great American Conference tournament next week. Schedules will be announced sometime over the next few days.
