Box Score Monticello – The Ouachita Baptist University Tiger volleyball team defeated the University of Monticello Cotton Blossoms on Tuesday night in Monticello in five games, after falling behind in the first two games 0-2. Final game scores were 23-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 15-13.
 
The Tigers (8-1, 2-0 Great American Conference) started slow in the first two sets, committing 19 attack errors to Monticello's 11. After a crucial intermission, however, Ouachita came out firing with 34 kills in the next three games and only 10 errors.
 
Junior Kelley Ballard led the Tigers with 11 kills and six blocks. Senior Faith Avalos and junior Tara Wait followed, recording nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Wait also led the team with 40 assists and two aces.
 
Junior Chelsey Hess and freshmen Ashley Wake, Jayme Shell and Anna Holcomb led OBU in digs, all recording double-digit numbers. Hess led all players with a total of 23 digs.
 
OBU finished the match hitting .155 to UAM's .072.
 
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, September 26 as they travel to Searcy to battle the Harding University Bison. First serve is 7 p.m.
