The Ouachita Baptist Tigers are off to a 2-0 start in 2013. After opening the season with two conference road wins, the Tigers defend A.U. Williams Field against the 1-3 Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm.
OBU has shown consistency on both sides of the football, ranking fifth in the conference in total offense and third in total defense. The Tigers currently rank second in the GAC with a rushing attack that averages 223 yards per game. Both senior running back
Chris Rycraw and junior
Steven Kehner currently rank in the top ten. Quarterback
Benson Jordan balances out the offense averaging 203 passing yards per game. The offense ranks first in Division II with a 65.6 % third down conversion rate.
On defense senior linebackers Ricky Brown and
Augustine Ume-Ezeoke are averaging seven tackles and one sack per game. Senior
Antwion Patterson and sophomore
Matt Mainiero share the team lead in interceptions with one each. The Tigers are tied for first in the conference allowing opponents an average of 18.5 first downs per game.
On the opposite sideline, the Savage Storm hopes to improve their conference record to 2-2 with help of their explosive offense that ranks fourth in the conference. The leaders of the offense are sophomore quarterback Nick Sioson, who throws for 315 yards per game and is second in the GAC with nine passing touchdowns. Freshman running back Devlon Wortham is averaging just over 100 rushing yards per game. Junior Anthony Foster and freshman Kaymon Farmer rank first and second in the GAC in receptions with nine and seven, respectively.
Southeastern's senior cornerback Eric Walker has a team-high 16 tackles, followed by junior defensive back Greg Jackson with 15. The Savage Storm defense has returned two interceptions for touchdowns, which leads the GAC.
Last season the Tigers traveled to Durant and needed a fourth quarter rally capped by a Rycraw touchdown to win 27-24. The Tigers lead the all-time series 29-16-4.
