ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers (5-10, 2-7) take the short trip across Highway 7 tonight to take on the Henderson State Reddies (8-9, 4-5) at in Duke Wells Center. The Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine is set to tip-off at 7:30 pm.
The Tigers are coming off a tough home loss to UAM this past Tuesday. The Tigers were in control early in the second half and played tough defense down the stretch, but repeated trips to the free-throw line for the Weevils were the Tigers' undoing.
Junior point guard
Micah Delph is the reigning GAC Player of the Week. Last week against Northwestern Oklahoma State he set a conference single-game record with 10 made three-pointers. He tied the school mark set by Rod Lee in 1997. Delph was honored to be recognized but said that what was most important was that he was playing well enough to help the team win.
In his past four games, Delph has shot 53% from beyond the arc. He already has 41 made three-point attempts, second best in the conference and eight more than he had all of last season. Delph also leads the GAC in free-throw percentage, shooting 94% from the line.
Junior forward
Colt Fason is one of four players in the conference to rank in the top 10 in scoring (seventh with 15.7 ppg) and rebounding (second with 8.8 rpg). He leads the Tigers with five double-doubles and reached double figures in rebounding six times.
The Tigers will need to play tough perimeter defense against a Reddies team that ranks first in the GAC in field goal percentage (47.5%) and three-point field goal percentage (41.3%). Taylor Smith and Deoirvay Johnson rank first and second in the GAC in three-point field goal percentage respectively.
6'9" junior Reggie Murphy leads the GAC with a 67% field goal percentage.
The Tigers lead the all-time series 100-96, winning 11 of the last 14 games played. The two teams split the series last year, each winning at home.
