Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Behind
Colt Fason's third double-double of the season, the Ouachita Tigers defeated the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils 74-71 on Saturday.
In the first half, Ouachita claimed and early lead, but the Weevils took it away with 6:49 remaining. The final seven minutes featured three lead changes before a 6-0 from the Tigers brought the score to 30-30 at the half.
The Tigers received an early spark from
Jerron Smith, who scored a game-high 12 points in the first half. Eight of Smith's points came from the free-throw line.
Monticello (3-4, 1-4 GAC) recorded a higher shooting percentage, on both three-point and overall field goals, despite the tie.
Early in the second half, the Tigers claimed the lead and maintained that lead until UAM took a 64-63 lead with 3:29 to play. Ouachita responded immediately, however, taking the lead right back and holding it for the remainder of the contest.
Fason's 14 points and eight rebounds in the second half propelled the Tigers to victory.
David Berete added 12 second-half points, as he played the entire 20 minutes.
For the game, Smith and Fason each finished with 16 points, while Fason grabbed 11 rebounds. Berete recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Justin McCleary added three buckets from behind the arc to finish with nine points.
The Tigers (6-2, 2-1 GAC) will host Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Dec. 20. The game will follow the women's game and is scheduled for 3 p.m.
