Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After outscoring the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers 39-26 in the second half, the Ouachita Tigers moved to 7-2 on the season with an 83-67 win on Saturday.
The first half featured three ties and two lead changes. Northwestern (2-9, 1-4 GAC) grabbed an early lead and later extended that lead to 11 points with 13:33 left in the half. The Tigers immediately responded, however, with a 13-2 run that was fueled by
Justin McCleary's three consecutive three-pointers.
A dunk by
Tirrell Brown gave the Tigers a 22-20 lead, and Ouachita maintained that lead until the half ended with the Tigers ahead 44-41.
McCleary led all scorers in the first half with 16 points on 5-7 shooting.
Colt Fason added nine points, six rebounds and four assists, followed by
Jerron Smith with seven points and four points.
In the second half, the Tigers continued to build on their lead, and eventually claimed their largest lead of 20 with under two minutes remaining. Ouachita's offense in the second half primarily came from the free-throw line, as the Tigers were 18-21 from the charity stripe.
Fason and Brown led with a game-high 12 second-half points each, while Brown grabbed eight rebounds and Fason grabbed seven. Fason led everyone with 21 points for the game, including 9-10 from the free-throw line. He added a total of 13 boards for his fourth double-double of the season.
McCleary finished the game with 20 points, and Brown scored 15 on 5-6 shooting from the field.
The Tigers finished with a 44.4 percent field-goal percentage and out-rebounded the Rangers 41-27. Ouachita also added 20 second-chance points.
Ouachita (7-2, 3-1 GAC) will host Harding University on Jan. 3, 2015, for its fifth conference game of the season. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
