Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Despite a 14-6 run to end the game, the Ouachita Lady Tigers failed to complete the comeback win over the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders on Saturday, losing 69-67.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early in the first half, but four consecutive points from
Kori Bullard gave Ouachita the 24-23 lead with 3:44 remaining. An 8-2 run by SAU to end the half, however, put the Lady Muleriders ahead 32-26 at the break.
Breanna Harris played in 18 of the 20 minutes in the half and scored a game-high nine points. Bullard led the Lady Tigers with five first-half rebounds.
In the second half, eight points from
Taylor Bowles in less than three minutes led the Lady Tigers to their first lead of the second half. Harris than added to the lead with a jumper that put Ouachita ahead 45-40 with 13:17 to play.
The next six minutes featured three ties and three lead-changes before Southern Arkansas took a 10-point lead on a 12-2 run with 4:31 left in the game. The Lady Tigers immediately responded with a run of their own, however, and tied the game at 67 with a three-pointer by Harris with 33 seconds left.
After a timeout, Southern Arkansas' Tierra Tucker drew a foul and converted on both free-throws with seven seconds left, giving SAU a 69-67 lead. Ouachita's Bowles heaved up a desperation three-pointer with three seconds remaining but the shot did not fall, and the Lady Muleriders escaped with the win.
Ouachita greatly improved its field goal shooting in the second half, converting on 42.9 percent of shots from the field. The Lady Tigers also committed only five turnovers in the half, the lowest committed in a half this season by Ouachita.
Bowles led the charge for the Lady Tigers with 19 points in only 14 minutes, all 19 coming in the second half. Harris followed Bowles with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists. Bullard and
Katherine West each added 10 points, and Bullard grabbed a game-high eight boards.
The Lady Tigers (3-5, 0-2) will host their first GAC game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 13, as Ouachita takes on the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
