Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After two made free-throws from Northwestern's T'aries Taylor with 15 seconds left, the Tigers called on number one, and he delivered.
Micah Delph, a junior guard at Ouachita, broke the hearts of the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers on Thursday, as he nailed a game-winning three with two seconds remaining. The Tigers defeated the Rangers 77-76.
Ouachita dominated in the first half, outscoring the Rangers 40-24, behind 14 points from Delph and 10 from Colt Fason. The Tigers were on fire from deep, shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range.
Despite a one-time 20 point deficit, Northwestern climbed back into the game and finally took the lead with 9:10 remaining in the game. The Rangers took over the game in the final ten minutes, claiming a lead as large as eight points with three minutes to play. The Tigers, however, shrunk the lead to one after three free-throws from Delph with 37 seconds left. T'aries then made one-of-two free-throws to give the Rangers the two-point lead.
In the final possession of the game, Delph received the ball on the bench-side corner of the court. Delph pump faked to avoid a defender, then heaved up a three for the win. The ball sailed through the rim, nothing but net, and gave the Tigers with victory.
Delph and Fason tied with a game-high 22 points. Delph finished 5-8 from three-point range and 5-5 from the line. Fason added six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Allen Buchanan scored 14 points for the Tigers, followed by Kyle Francis with 10 points and five boards.
Thursday night's matchup was the third game that the Tigers have called on Delph for game-winning basket. Delph nailed a two-pointer to steal the win at Henderson State on Jan. 23, and he made two free-throws for the win against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Jan. 30.
The Tigers (8-15, 5-12 GAC) will host Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 22. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
