Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After two goals in the first ten minutes from freshman
Blake Beshirs, the Ouachita Tigers defeated the McMurry War Hawks 3-2 on Saturday.
In the ninth minute of the match, Ouachita's
Tyler Mouton crossed the ball into the box, finding Beshirs inside the six yard box. Beshirs finished the play, putting the Tigers up 1-0.
One minute later, the Tigers earned a free kick off a McMurry foul. From 20 yards out, Beshirs took the kick and netted the ball again, placing the ball in the top right corner of the goal.
Later in the 37
th minute,
Brian Williams added to the scoring off an assist from
Jackson Currin. William's goal was the final in the half, and the Tigers went into halftime with the 3-0 lead.
Ouachita recorded 15 first-half shots, while preventing McMurry from attempting one shot in the entire half.
In the second half, neither team was able to net a goal. The Tigers recorded 10 more shots, however, bringing their total to 25 shots for the match. The War Hawks attempted six shots in the second half, but Ouachita preserved the shutout.
Beshirs led the Tigers with three shots on goal, followed by Williams and
Logan Hampton with two.
David Henley started in goal for Ouachita, shutting out the War Hawks for the first 45 minutes.
Jarrod Collins replaced Henley in the second half and recorded the only save for the Tigers.
The Tigers (2-5) will host Dallas Baptist University on Tuesday, Sept. 23, for their next match of the regular season. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
