Offensive showcase leads to Ouachita victory

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After two goals from Kaleb Banning in the first 17 minutes, the Ouachita Tigers men's soccer team defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots 5-3 on Tuesday.

Banning, a freshman, struck first in the 13th minute of the match. He received a cross from Tinashe Chigede before beating a defender and putting the ball in the back of the net from 18 yards out.

In the 17th minute, Banning scored again for the Tigers, after a few deflections led the ball to Banning's feet, six yards away from the goal.

After 22 minutes of scoreless play, Dallas Baptist's Brian Robertson brought the Patriots within one after his goal from just outside the box.

Three minutes later, however, in the 42 minute, Ouachita's Logan Hampton gave the Tigers their second two-score lead of the match. Hampton received a pass from Dillon Farrell that put Hampton one-on-one with the keeper, eventually leading to a 3-1 lead for Ouachita.

In the second half, the Patriots attempted a comeback, as David Bayleat received the ball inside the box after a blocked shot. Bayleat netted the ball, bringing the score to 3-2.

After recording an assist in the first half, Chigede joined in on the scoring in the 56th minute. Chigede recorded his second goal of the season, after dribbling past two defenders and scoring from six yards out.

Ouachita's Colton Huie added his second goal of the season 15 minutes later, bringing the score to 5-2 with less than 20 minutes to play.

Dallas Baptist would record one more goal, but it was not enough to complete the comeback, as the Tigers grabbed the 5-3 victory.

Banning led Ouachita with four shots, all four on target, and two goals. Chigede, Huie and Hampton each added two shots and a goal, as well.

David Henley spent all 90 minutes at keeper for the Tigers, recording five saves on eight shots on goal.

The Tigers (3-5) next opponent will be Texas A&M International on Sept. 28.
