Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Despite recording six more total shots and one more shot on goal, the Ouachita Tigers women's soccer team fell to the Texas A&M International DustDevils 3-1 on Sunday.
The DustDevils jumped ahead of the Tigers early, as Kim Garcia scored the first goal of the match in the second minute. After a long, defensive stand from both sides, Garcia added another goal for A&M International in the 39th minute. Six minutes later, the first half came to a close with the DustDevils clinging to a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers recorded six shots in the first half, compared to TAMIU's five. Four of the six shots were on target, but Ouachita could not put the ball in the net, finishing the half scoreless.
Ouachita's offense maintained possession throughout the second half, as the Tigers recorded seven shots throughout the period. Despite only two shots in the second half, the DustDevils took a 3-0 lead in the 50th minute off a corner kick.
The Tigers began their comeback in the 82nd minute, when Haley Hatcher netted a shot that came on a long pass from Sarah Fish. The goal was Hatcher's fifth of the season, putting her tied for first in the Great American Conference in goals.
After the Tigers cut the lead to one, TAMIU's defense proved strong as the match ended with the DustDevils on top, 3-1.
Hatcher recorded five shots, four on goal, while Bryson Rial and Morgan Allen each finished with three shots.
Emily Keith started in goal for the Tigers and recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes. Jessica McCauley started the second half at keeper and recorded one save in the second 45 minutes.
The Tigers (1-7-1, 0-1 GAC) will host Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 3, for their second conference match of the season. The match is schedule to begin at 1 p.m.
