Reddies take both games in first Battle of the Ravine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers and Tigers both fell to the Henderson State Reddies on Thursday night in the first of two Battle of the Ravine basketball games. The Reddies defeated the Lady Tigers 75-46, and the Tigers lost 71-67.

In the women's game, both teams went scoreless for the first 50 seconds until Henderson (6-10, 4-6 GAC) started a 15-0 run to begin the game. The Reddies kept their double-digit lead for the rest of the game and at one point claimed a larges lead of 31.

The Lady Tigers (6-11, 2-8 GAC) struggled offensively from start to finish, as Ouachita missed its first 16 shots from the floor. For the game, the Lady Tigers posted a shooting percentage of 21.9 percent, their lowest field-goal percentage since Nov. 30, 2007.

The Reddies were held to a field-goal percentage of only 34.4 percent in the first half but knocked down 56.3 percent of their field goals in the second half to increase their shooting percentage to 45.3 percent for the game.

The Reddies were led by Aungelique Sledge, who scored 24 points while grabbing seven rebounds and recording five assists. Haleigh Henson followed with 22 points for Henderson, including six three-pointers. Dulincia Keener also scored in double-digits for the Reddies, as she scored 16 points and hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds.

Ouachita's Kori Bullard led the team with 15 points in the game, followed by Breanna Harris with 6. Katie Kapler finished with a team-high seven boards.

In the men's game, the Reddies jumped out to an early lead again and eventually claimed a 14-point lead with 8:10 to play in the first half. The Tigers clawed their way back, however, and cut the lead to five until a last-second three-pointer to end the half by HSU's Aaron Cooper put the Reddies ahead 40-32 at the break.

Henderson (8-8, 5-5 GAC) maintained its lead for much of the second half before an 11-0 run for the Tigers, capped off by a dunk by Allen Buchanan, tied the game at 47. Less than three minutes later, the Tigers went on a 6-0 to claim their largest lead of seven with 7:24 to go.

The Reddies slowly began their comeback, behind nine points in less than three minutes from Kevin Kozan. Kozan's three-pointer with 1:32 remaining finally put HSU on top again, 66-65. Henderson then relied on its defense, as the Reddies outscored Ouachita 5-2 in the final minute to steal the 71-67 victory.

The Tigers (11-4, 7-3 GAC) finished with a field-goal percentage of 48.2 percent but allowed the Reddies to convert on half of their shots. Henderson was led by Kozan's 21 points, all coming from behind the arc.
