Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Despite a three-point deficit at halftime, the Ouachita Tigers pulled out a 66-58 win over the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs on Thursday.
Micah Delph led all scorers with a season-high 21 points.
After netting the most free-throws in a game since 2004 on Saturday, the Tigers converted on 20-25 from the charity stripe in the win over SWOSU. Ouachita also posted a field-goal percentage of 37.7 percent.
The Bulldogs (8-5, 2-4 GAC) claimed the first lead of the game and maintained the lead for all but 52 seconds in the first half. After a two-point jumper from SWOSU's Martell Collins, the Tigers went into halftime down 32-29.
Ouachita struggled from the floor in the first half, as the Tigers sunk only 30.3 percent of their shots from the field. The Bulldogs posted a field-goal percentage of 35.5 percent and committed only two turnovers in the 20-minute half.
With 13:51 remaining in the second half, Ouachita finally took the lead on a three-pointer by Delph. The next two minutes featured two lead changes, before a 10-2 run by the Tigers put Ouachita ahead 47-39 with 9:22 to play.
Ouachita held its lead for the rest of the game and led by as much as 11. With 1:36 to play, Southwestern pulled within two, but seven points from the free-throw line by Delph sealed the 66-58 win.
Delph scored a game-high 15 second-half points, while
Tirrell Brown added nine points and five rebounds. The Tigers greatly improved their shooting in the second half, making 50 percent of their shots from the field.
For the game, Delph led with 21 points. Brown and
Colt Fason added 11 points each, while Brown recorded his first double-double of the season by grabbing 11 boards.
The Tigers recorded only five assists for the game but scored 16 second-chance points and 24 points in the paint while out-rebounding the Bulldogs 43-33.
The Tigers (9-2, 5-1) will travel to Ada, Okla. on Saturday, Jan. 10, as they take on East Central University. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
