ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers defeated the Henderson State Reddies 3-0 on Thursday, in the first Battle of the Ravine of the 2015 volleyball season. The Tigers dominated in every statistical category, outscoring the Reddies in kills, attack percentage, assists, aces, digs and blocks.
The Reddies (1-16, 0-5 GAC) started the match with a 6-0 run and led until the Tigers finally tied the set at 21-21. Ouachita was able to climb back with a 10-3 run, and the Tigers later took the set 26-24 after a kill by
Abby Pickett. Pickett paced the Tigers in the first set with five kills, and Ouachita took a 1-0 lead despite the Reddies recording a higher attack percentage (.256-.171).
Ouachita (8-5, 3-2 GAC) took control of the second set early, with a 7-0 run after the score reached 3-3. The run featured three kills from Pickett and gave the Tigers a 10-3 lead. The Tigers eventually won the set, 25-17, with the Reddies never pulling within four points.
Pickett once again led all players in the match with eight kills in the second set.
Kori Bullard followed with four kills, and
Ashley Wake recorded a match-high 10 digs in the set. The Tigers had an attack percentage of .237 in the set, while holding Henderson State to .000.
The final set was a back-and-forth contest, with neither team claiming a lead of more than four until the Tigers ended the match on an 8-1 run to win 25-18. Ouachita held a .296 attack percentage in the set and picked up five blocks.
Pickett finished with a match-high 15 kills and five blocks, while Bullard's 12 kills and only four errors gave her a match-high attack percentage of .348.
Stormi Leonard recorded a double-double in the match, assisting on 33 kills and adding 11 digs. Wake led everyone with 18 digs, and
Jayme Shell had 10.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 9, as the team travels to Shawnee, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Baptist. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
