ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers ended a match in a tie for the first time this season on Tuesday, as the Tigers and the Harding University Bisons were only able to score one goal each after 110 minutes of play.
Ouachita (5-9-1, 4-1-1 GAC) controlled the ball early, taking six of the first seven shots. The Tigers also took eight shots in the first half while holding Harding (4-10-2, 2-5-2 GAC) to only two. Despite a combined five shots on goal in the half, neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Less than seven minutes into the second half, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead on
Tinashe Chigede's fifth goal of the season. The 52
nd-minute goal came after
Joey Zerbo found Chigede on a pass through Harding's box.
Harding would eventually respond, however, in the 84
th minute. The Bisons tied the match on a goal from Jason Diaz that was assisted by Josiah Ireland and Jackson Buchanan. Despite a shot on goal from Chigede in the 88
th minute, regular time ended with a 1-1 tie.
In both periods of overtime, Ouachita took a combined five shots, while the Bisons attempted four. Neither team was able to place a shot on goal, however, resulting in a tie after 110 minutes.
The Tigers took 22 total shots in the match, with 10 being on goal. Chigede and
Tyler Mouton had four shots each, and
Sewell Yost followed with three. Chigede recorded a match-high three shots on goal, and Mouton and Yost each had two.
Nelson Pacheco spent all 90 minutes at keeper for Ouachita and recorded three saves.
The Tigers have clinched the number-one seed in the 2015 Great American Conference Men's Soccer Tournament that will begin on Nov. 6. Ouachita will end its regular season in a non-conference match against Mississippi College on Friday, Oct. 30, in Clinton, Miss. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
