Ouachita shuts out ECU in regular season finale

Hatcher's two goals gives Tigers seventh straight win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The 2015 women's soccer regular season came to a close on Thursday, with the Ouachita Tigers defeating the East Central Tigers 2-0 for Ouachita's seventh consecutive victory. Haley Hatcher recorded both goals in the match, giving her a total of 13 goals during the seven-game streak.
 
Ouachita (11-6, 10-2 GAC) dominated the entire 90-minute match but could not find the back of the net until the 83rd minute. In the 83rd minute, Hatcher received the ball on a cross before finally giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead with her 17th goal of the season.
 
58 seconds later, Hatcher found the back of the net again on a similar goal. Ouachita then held East Central (4-12, 3-7 GAC) to only two shots in the final six minutes to seal the victory.
 
For the match, Ouachita took a season-high 36 shots, with 14 on goal. East Central was held to only 13 shots, and all three shots on goal for ECU were stopped by Lauren Llanes.
 
Hatcher and Llanes spent all 90 minutes on the pitch for the Tigers, along with back-to-back GAC Defensive Player of the Week Tessa Woodcock. Hatcher finished the match with nine total shots and seven shots on goal. Woodcock, Morgan Allen, Bryson Thomas and Natalia Arteaga followed with four shots each. 22 players entered the match for Ouachita, with 11 different players attempting a shot.
 
During the seven-game win streak, Ouachita has outscored its opponents 17-3. Lauren Llanes had recorded five shutouts, and Hatcher has moved to sixth in Division II with 18 goals.
 
Hatcher's 13 goals in the past seven games outscores every player but one in the GAC this entire season.
 
The Tigers currently sit in second place in the Great American Conference, behind Harding University. The next match for Ouachita will be in the 2015 GAC Conference Tournament, beginning on Nov. 6. Opponents, dates and times are to be determined after the final games of the regular season on Saturday.
