Tigers stampede Bison in GAC opener, 78-58

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Ouachita Tigers shot 63% from the floor, including 58% from beyond the arc, to lift them over Oklahoma Baptist in their GAC opener, 78-58. Lakee Westbrook drained six three-pointers en route to a 20-point night. Tirrell Brown shot 8-12 from the floor, scoring 16 points.

Oklahoma Baptist took a 23-22 lead with just under three minutes to play in the first half. Ouachita closed out the first half on 6-0 run, thanks to back-to-back treys by Westbrook and entered halftime leading 28-23. Westbrook made all five of his shot attempts in the first half, including going 4-4 on three-point attempts. The Tiger defense held the Bison to only eight made shots in the first half, with five of those being three-point shots.

Tirrell Brown opened the second-half scoring for the Tigers. Brown scored eight of Ouachita's 12 points in the first four minutes of the second half. Leading 40-28, the Tigers took advantage of Bison missed shots to increase their lead by 23 with 10 minutes remaining. Ouachita led by a s many as 25 points in the final ten minutes of the game, with Oklahoma Baptist cutting the lead to 20 in the final minute on made free throws.

The Tigers shot an astounding 78% from three-point range in the second half, with four different Tigers draining threes. As a team they shot 69% from the floor in the second half, led by Brown's 10 and Justin McCleary's eight.

The Tigers will face Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 21. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
