Ryan Trayner scored two of Ouachita's eight goals, leading Ouachita to a shutout win over Southern Nazarene in the Great American Conference Championship opener. Seven different Tigers scored and five players logged assists, including two by
Justin Ware. Ouachita will face Oklahoma Baptist in the final on Sunday at Kluck Field.
Trayner scored his first goal in the third minute of the game, scoring from 18 yards out of deflection by a Southern Nazarene defender. The Tigers doubled their lead four minutes later when
Logan Hampton stole the ball from a defender and delivered a strike from 10 yards out into the back of the Crimson Storm net.Â
All-GAC defender
Colton Huie scored his second goal of the season in the 26th minute off a corner kick from
Brandon Hom. Huie's shot from 12 yards out beat the SNU keeper and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the first half. Ouachita closed out the first half with a 4-0 lead thanks to
Dylan Tritton's fourth goal of the season in the 36th minute.
Picking up right where they left off in the second half,
Tyler Mouton connected with
Joey Zerbo on through pass and Zerbo scored on a breakaway with less than two minutes elapsed in the half. 10 minutes later, Ouachita increased their lead to 6-0 with
Ryan Trayner scoring his second goal of the game and fifth of the season.
Eric Bentley and
Colten Clark scored the final two goals for Ouachita on breakaways, with Justin Wear executing the through pass on both goals to earn the assists. Ouachita out shot the Crimson Storm 24-9, with 17 of the Tigers' shots being on goal. Â
Top-seed Ouachita will face the number two seed, Oklahoma Baptist, in the GAC Conference Championship final on Sunday. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley and Debbie Kluck Field in Arkadelphia.Â
