Tirrell Brown scored a season-high 31 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in 30 minutes of play to lead the Ouachita Tigers to a 31-point victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State, 102-71. Justin McCleary scored a season-high 23 points on 10-16 shooting from floor.
Lakee Westbrook finished with 15.
As a team, Ouachita shot 54% from the floor for the game, connecting on 42 of 77 shot attempts. They went 12-25 from beyond the arc, including a blistering 6-10 in the second half. Despite a size disadvantage on the inside, Ouachita outrebounded Southeastern 45-22. The Tigers scored 48 points in the paint to Southeastern's 34 and held a 17-2 advantage in second-chance points.
Despite missing their first three shot attempts, the Tigers led 11-2 with just over 15 minutes to play in the first half. The Savage Storm came out of the first media timeout and cut the Tigers lead to two points on three straight baskets. Ouachita responded with their own 9-0 run to get the lead back to 11 points, 20-9. Southeastern would get no closer than nine points for the remainder of the game. The Tigers outscored Southeastern 28-16 to close out the first half and give themselves a 48-25 lead.
McCleary led the Tigers in the first half with 15 points. Brown finished the half with 14 points on 7-9 shooting and six rebounds. Ouachita's defense limited Southeastern to only ten made shots in the first on 24 attempts while forcing 10 Southeastern turnovers.
Ouachita led by as many as 34 points in the second half.
Mahlon Martin and
Matthew Ward provided offense off the bench. Martin scored eight second-half points including two from beyond the arc. Ward also knocked down a three in the second half, finishing the game going 2-2 from long range.
Aitor Lopez-Breton provided help on the inside defensively and pulled down rebounds including a team-high five offensive rebounds, four coming in the second half.
With 1:07 remaining in the game, a McCleary jumper gave the Tigers a 99-69 lead. Brown pulled down his 14th rebound of the game on the ensuing Southeastern possession to give Ouachita the ball with 48 seconds remaining. Brown scored the final points for the Tigers on a three-ball from the left baseline corner to give Ouachita the 102-71 victory.
The Tigers will host East Central University on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Bill Vining Arena. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
