Harding defeats Tigers in regular season finale

Box Score SEARCY, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers dropped their final game of the regular season on Saturday, losing to the Harding University Bisons 00-00. Despite the loss, the Tigers will be the first seed in the Great American Conference Tournament.
 
Harding (13-13, 11-9 GAC) ended its four-game losing streak while ending Ouachita's nine-game winning streak.
 
The Bisons dominated in the first half, posting a field-goal percentage of 62.1 percent and recording 17 assists on 18 field goals. Harding also converted on 71.4 percent of its three-point attempts.
 
The Tigers netted 53.8 percent of their shots from the field in the half, but made five less three-pointers. The final three made baskets by Harding in the first half were three-pointers and the Bisons went into halftime with a 47-36 lead.
 
Harding's Andraz Kavas and John Hudson led all scorers with 17 points and 12 points, respectively, while shooting a combined 11-15 from the field and 6-8 from deep. Ouachita was led by Jontavis Willis in the period, who was 3-4 from beyond the arc.
 
The Tigers pulled within double-digits twice in the first three minutes of the second half, but a 10-0 run by the Bisons gave Harding its first 20-point lead with 14:58 to play. Harding then maintained at least an 11-point lead for the rest of the contest, before winning 91-71.
 
The Bisons cooled down in the second half but still were 55.6 percent from the field while holding Ouachita to 40 percent. Micah Delph tried to bring the Tigers back with 11 second-half points on 4-7 shooting, but Harding was once again led by Kavas, who scored 15 points in the half.
 
For the game, Kavas recorded a game-high 32 points and nine rebounds, while Hudson scored 21. Delph led the Tigers with 14 points, while Willis followed with 11. Colt Fason added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds, and David Berete led Ouachita with six assists to go along with nine points.
 
The Tigers (20-5, 16-4 GAC) secured their eighth 20-win season in program history in the win against Henderson State on Thursday. The one-seeded Tigers will travels to Bartlesville, Okla. to take on the eighth-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, March 6. The game is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
