Tigers split in final day of tournament

Bullard named to All-Tournament Team

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers played the final two games of the Arkansas Tech Tournament on Saturday, defeating the Midwestern State University Mustangs 3-0 before falling to the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns 3-0. 

The Tigers (5-3) defeating Midwestern State in straight sets, 25-22, 28-26 and 27-25. Ouachita was able to control the match by committing only six attack errors. The Mustangs committed 21 errors, resulting in an attack percentage of only .254, while Ouachita recorded a .375 percentage. The Tigers all recorded five blocks. 

Abby Pickett continued her dominance in the tournament, leading the Tigers with 16 kills and only one error. Her .682 attack percentage led all players in the match. Kori Bullard followed with 12 kills and zero errors for an attack percentage of .600. Stephanie Pollnow added 10 kills with only two errors.

Jayme Shell led Ouachita's backline with 13 digs, followed by Chloe Brinkley with 11 and Stormi Leonard with nine. Leonard also recorded a match-high 42 assists in the victory. 

Against the Golden Suns, the Tigers were unable to avoid errors, committing 13 in the three-set match. Tech committed a total of 22 errors, but its nine more kills led to an attack percentage of .221. The Golden Suns were lethal on serves, finishing with eight aces. 

Pickett and Bullard led with nine kills each in the loss, and Ashley Wake recorded a match-high 21 digs. 

Bullard was named to the All-Tournament Team after recording 37 kills and only six errors in the four games. She also added 12 blocks and six digs. 

The Tigers will host the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the first home match of the 2015 season. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Sturgis Physical Education Center.
