ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers suffered their first loss of the Great American Conference season on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Oklahoma Baptist.
The Tigers (2-6, 1-1 GAC) struck first when
Tinashe Chigede stole the ball from an Oklahoma Baptist defender before beating the keeper one-on-one and putting the ball in the back of the net in the fifth minute of the match. The score was Chigede's third of the season.
Ouachita held the Bison scoreless in the first half, while taking a total of 12 shots. In the second half, however, Oklahoma Baptist (2-7, 1-1 GAC) tied the match in the 60
th minute. The goal came from Kervy Robles and was assisted by Ruben Basurto.
After nearly 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Bison took the lead on a goal from Vicente Castillo. The goal came in the 79
th minute, and Oklahoma Baptist was able to hold the Tigers scoreless until the final buzzer.
Oklahoma Baptist finished with 26 total shots, but only six on goal. The Tigers took a total of 20 shots, with 10 coming on goal.
Chigede led the Tigers with four shots and three shots on goal.
Ryan Trayner added three shots and two shots on goal.
Ben O'Brien spent all 90 minutes at keeper for Ouachita and finished with four saves.
The Tigers will be back on the pitch on Friday, Oct. 2, when Ouachita hosts Delta State University. Kickoff from Kluck Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
