Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers opened the 2015 men's soccer season on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles.
Tinashe Chigede, a 2014 Division II All-Central Region selection, led the Tigers with two goals.
Ouachita (1-0) controlled the ball early, as the Tigers took the first four shots of the match. The Eagles struck first, however, when Anthony Buchanan scored in the 26
th minute on the first shot of the game by Oklahoma Christian.
The next 25 minutes featured only two shots combined by both teams, until Ouachita's offense came alive with a diving header by Chigede that found the back of the net in the 53
rd minute. The header came off a cross from the right side by
Tyler Mouton.
Sewell Yost then gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the 80
th minute on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box, and Chigede scored his second on a penalty kick less than a minute later.
Ouachita finished with 14 total shots, while holding the Eagles to nine. The Tigers placed four shots on goal.
Chigede took a game-high five shots, two coming on goal, and Yost and
Blake Beshirs finished with two shots each.
Nelson Pacheco started at keeper for Ouachita, but was replaced by
Ben O'Brien after the first 45 minutes. O'Brien held Oklahoma Christian scoreless in the second half and recorded two saves.
The Tigers will travel to Memphis, Tenn. next to take on Christian Brothers University. The match is scheduled for Sept. 8 and will begin at 7 p.m.
