HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On a Saturday featuring a Ouachita volleyball doubleheader, the Tigers started with a 3-1 victory over the William Jewell Cardinals but later fell 3-0 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers. Ouachita finished the tournament in Huntsville with a record of 3-1.
Against the William Jewell College Cardinals, the Tigers won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19 before losing the third 25-21. Ouachita bounced back, however, recording an attack percentage of .550 in the fourth set to defeat the Cardinals 25-14.
Kori Bullard led all players with five kills in the final set.
The Tigers (3-1) finished the match with a .233 attack percentage, while holding William Jewell to .150 percent. Ouachita also recorded 64 digs and 46 assists. Bullard ended with a match-high 14 kills, followed by
Stephanie Pollnow and
Abby Pickett with 11 each.
Stormi Leonard added a career-high 44 assists and 12 digs, and
Ashley Wake led everyone with 19 digs.
In the second game of the day, Ouachita struggled early, recording an attack percentage of only .188. The Chargers would take the first set 25-22 before taking both the second and third by a score of 25-19.
Jayme Shell, Pickett and Pollnow finished with eight kills each, and Wake picked up 12 digs in the match.
The Tigers have started the volleyball season 3-1 for the third consecutive year.
Ouachita will look to continue its early success beginning on Friday, Sept. 11 when the Tigers participate in the Arkansas Tech Tournament in Russellville, Ark. Ouachita will take on Newman University and Missouri Southern State University on Friday, followed by Midwestern State University and Arkansas Tech University on Saturday.
The Tigers are scheduled to begin the tournament against Newman at 1 p.m.
