ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers fell to 2-5 in the Great American Conference on Thursday, falling 69-48 to the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns. The Golden Suns are currently ranked 22
nd in the Division II USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Lady Tigers (5-8, 2-5 GAC) took the first lead of the game, after
Katie Kapler and
Breanna Harris both made layups to put Ouachita ahead 4-0. The first-place Golden Suns (9-2, 7-0 GAC) took an 8-4 lead, however, and held the lead for the rest of the contest.
Despite trailing 19-9 after one quarter, the Lady Tigers pulled within six at the halftime break, outscoring Tech 17-13 in the second quarter. Arkansas Tech took control in the second half, however, outscoring Ouachita 19-10 in the third quarter and 18-12 in the final period.
Fatima Adams, the GAC's third leading scorer, finished with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds. Ouachita was led by Harris, who scored 13 points in the loss.
Kori Bullard followed with nine points and seven boards, and
Katherine West added seven points, all coming from the free-throw line.
Ouachita finished with a field-goal percentage of just 29.8 percent, while the Golden Suns netted 41.2 percent of their shots. The Golden Suns also outscored Ouachita 42-16 in the paint and 26-10 on points off turnovers.
The Lady Tigers will travel to Searcy, Ark. for their next contest, as Ouachita will take on Harding University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
