Ouachita defeats Reddies for fifth straight win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers won their fifth straight game on Monday night, defeating the Henderson State Reddies 92-72. Ouachita posted its third consecutive game in which the Tigers were at least 50 percent from three-point range.

The Reddies (3-11, 2-7GAC) took the first lead of the game, but Ouachita quickly earned its first lead on an 11-2 run that featured nine points from Justin McCleary. Later in the first half, Lakee Westbrook converted on two free-throws which started a 19-2 run over the next four minutes for the Tigers, giving Ouachita a 46-24 lead. Westbrook had 11 points and was perfect from the field during the run.

Ouachita (7-8, 7-2 GAC) grabbed its largest lead of the first half on a three-pointer by Westbrook with 1:29 remaining, which gave the Tigers a 23-point lead. The Reddies ended the half on an 8-4 run to decrease the deficit to 53-34 at the break.

Westbrook was 6-6 from the field and 4-4 from three in the period. Behind Westbrook's 18 first-half points, the Tigers converted on 63.3 percent of their shots from the field and were 9-13 from three-point range. The Reddies were held to just 40 percent from the floor and were 2-6 from deep.

McCleary added with 11 points for the Tigers, and Tirrell Brown finished the half with nine points and five rebounds.

In the second half, Ouachita never allowed the Reddies to pull within 16 points, and the Tigers claimed their largest lead of 24 on a dunk by Allen Buchanan with 1:30 to play. After shooting 63.3 percent in the first half, Ouachita netted 56.5 percent of its field goals in the second. Westbrook led the way with eight points, followed by Jordan Corbitt with seven.

Ouachita led for over 36 minutes in the 40-minute game, including all 20 minutes of the second half. The Tigers finished the game with a field-goal percentage of 60.4 percent and three-point percentage of 59.1 percent. Ouachita was also 15-19 from the free-throw line.

Brown finished with a game-high eight rebounds, as Ouachita out-rebounded Henderson 36-20. The Tigers also outscored the Reddies 34-18 in the paint.

Westbrook tied a season-high with 26 points in the win, followed by McCleary with 16 and Brown with 15. Corbitt had nine points to go along with a game-high five assists.

During Ouachita's five-game winning streak, the Tigers average margin of victory has been 12.6 points. The Tigers will travel to Monticello on Thursday, Jan. 21, to take on the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
