Harris scores career-high in loss

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite a career-high 27 points from Breanna Harris, the Ouachita Lady Tigers dropped their five consecutive game on Saturday, falling 70-64 to the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders. The Lady Muleriders recorded 21 points off Ouachita's 21 turnovers in the contest.
 
Harris gave the Lady Tigers their first lead on a three-pointer 18 seconds into the first quarter. Southern Arkansas (11-3, 7-3 GAC) would eventually take an 8-5 lead, but an 8-0 run by Ouachita gave the Lady Tigers a 13-8 lead with 3:18 to go in the first quarter.
 
Ouachita (5-11, 2-8 GAC) held its lead until the end of the first quarter and through the first five minutes of the second period. Southern Arkansas tied the score at 20 midway through the quarter, but Harris gave Ouachita the lead right back on a layup. The final five minutes of the half featured three ties but zero lead changes, and the half came to a close with the teams tied, 26-26.
 
Harris led all scorers with 19 first-half points on 8-15 shooting from the floor. Katie Kapler scored just two points but grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Lady Tigers converted on 35.5 percent of shots from the floor, while holding SAU to just 29.4 percent. Ouachita was only 1-9 from three-point range, however.
 
The first minute of the second half featured four lead changes, until a three from Kori Bullard gave the Lady Tigers a 32-30 lead with 8:59 left in the third period. Ouachita held its lead for over five minutes, until Southern Arkansas took a 40-39 lead with 3:48 until the fourth quarter. The lead went immediately back to the Lady Tigers, though, on a layup by Halley Hill.
 
With 7:40 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Lady Muleriders took their fifth lead of the game at 48-47. Despite never gaining a lead of more than eight, Southern Arkansas maintained its lead and eventually won by six.
 
Ouachita committed nine turnovers in the half, resulting in 11 points for the Lady Muleriders. Southern Arkansas also netted 56.5 percent of its shots from the field. The Lady Tigers were 40 percent from the field but only 4-15 from three-point range.
 
Harris, who took 15 shots in the first half, took only four in the second, but was 3-4 for eight points. Kapler led the Lady Tigers with 11 points in the half.
 
For the game, Ouachita knocked down 37.7 percent of its shots but were only 5-24 from the three-point line. The Lady Tigers converted on 48.6 percent of their shots inside the three-point line.
 
Ouachita will return to conference play on Monday, Jan. 25, as the Lady Tigers travel to Monticello, Ark. to take on the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
