Tigers run for 307 yards in 41-14 win over Southern Nazarene

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' football team improved to 5-4 on the year with a 41-14 victory at Cliff Harris Stadium over Southern Nazarene University. The Tigers rushed for a combined 307 yards, with Shun'cee Thomas gaining 149 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Drew Harris rushed for three touchdowns while senior Devin Price and Shaquille Hunter each had an interception for the Tiger defense.

The Tiger defense forced three turnovers and recorded six tackles for loss on the night while holding Southern Nazarene scoreless in the first half. Allie Freeman returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown and finished the game with 208 all-purpose yards.

The Tigers opened the game with a 56-yard kickoff return by Allie Freeman. The good field position set up a 24-yard field goal by Cole Antley to give Ouachita a 3-0 lead. Drew Harris scored on a nine-yard run to end the first half to put the Tigers up 10-0. The Ouachita defense forced Southern Nazarene to turn the ball over on downs on their only possession of the quarter.

On the Crimson Storm's third play of the second quarter, senior Devin Price picked off a pass by SNU quarterback Jacob Spady, returning it back to the Southern Nazarene 33 yard line. on a first and ten from the SNU 22, Shun'cee Thomas found a seam on the near sideline and carried it in for the score. Down 17-0, Spady threw his second pick of the game on the Crimson Storm's next possession. This time Ouachita's Shaquille Hunter grabbed the interception. The Tigers converted the pick into points when Antley connected on a 23-yard field goal to put Ouachita up by 20.
 
After forcing Southern Nazarene to punt on their next possession, Allie Freeman broke off an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown. The Tigers would enter halftime leading the Crimson Storm 27-0.

Southern Nazarene opened the second half with their first scoring drive of the game. Spady found his receiver in the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown pass to cap off 15 play, 84-yard drive. Late in the third quarter, Harris scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a third and two direct snap from the SNU five yard line. The third quarter would end with Ouachita leading 34-7.
  
With the ball in their possession to start the fourth quarter, Ouachita's Drew Harris scored his third and final rushing touchdown of the game on a first goal carry from the 10 yard line. Southern Nazarene answered with another long touchdown drive, this one ending with a 16-yard pass from Spady to Reese Carlson. The Tigers recovered a fumble on a punt late in the final quarter, but could not convert the turnover into more points. The game would end with Ouachita leading 41-14.

Prior to the game, seniors Ke'Vontae Pope, Kendrick Henderson, Zach Miller, Devin Price, Austin Warford, Lucas Reed, Jordan Jones, Brandon Marks, Waymon Johnson Jr., Brannon Kotch, Jed Beach, Jordan Sharp and Andrew Gendi  were recognized in a special ceremony. 

The Tigers travel to Shawnee, Okla. next Saturday, Nov. 5 to face Oklahoma Baptist.
