ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' men's basketball team overcame poor first-half shooting, scoring 47 second-half points on the road to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State by a final of 72-58. Five Tigers finished with double figures in scoring, helping improve Ouachita's conference record to 3-1 and 4-2 overall.
Ouachita shot only 38 percent in the first half and went 2-10 from beyond the three-point line.
Carven Holcolmbe and
Aitor Lopez-Breton kept the game close in the first half with their work inside. Holcolmbe led the Tigers with seven points in the first half and pulled down five rebounds. Lopez-Breton scored five and had four rebounds.
Jordan Corbitt went 2-2 from the floor in the first period, knocking down of one of the Tigers' two treys.
Southeastern had their own shooting woes in the first half, allowing Ouachita to stay within striking distance. Ouachita entered the second half trailing 27-25.
Both teams came out firing in the second half resulting in 11 lead changes in the first 11 minutes of play. Southeastern found themselves in foul trouble early and with 8:59 left in the game, Ouachita was in the double bonus.
Justin McCleary scored in the paint with 8:31 left to give Ouachita a 51-50 lead. He followed that up with a deep three, extending the lead to four. The Tigers would not give up the lead for the remainder of the game. Ouachita made 15 of 18 second-half free throw attempts to put the game away.
Isaiah Harper scored the game's final points on a break-away dunk with 35 seconds left putting the Tigers up by a final score of 72-58.
McCleary scored a game-high 15, followed by Holcolmbe and Harper with 13. Corbitt added 12 points and
Lakee Westbrook finished with 10, six of those coming from the charity stripe.
The Tigers will continue their road trip on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they'll face East Central in Ada, Okla. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
